At the first meeting
of the Thatu board in London today, the official launch documents
were signed and application was made to the Charity Commissioners
for charitable status.
Thatu is a new organisation,
expecting soon to become a charity, aiming to support self-help
in producing food in South Africa's informal settlements.
Thatu aims to support
under-resourced communities waiting and willing to make a better
future for themselves in their New South Africa.
We want to support
self-help schemes in communities to:
grow
food and improve nutrition
encourage
the iniatives by women and children
support
those vulnerable through HIV/AIDS
improve
and sustain their environment
generate
income for themselves and their communities.
All our activities aim to promote:
the
needs identified and articulated by the community
schemes
that have long term sustainability
effective
communication between members of communities
partnerships
with likeminded organisations in South Africa
a
meaningful dialogue between Thatu's Friends and the projects they
support to ensure that we learn from our experiences.
