Founder
& Trustee - Catherine McGarey
Whilst
at school I became part of an HIV/AIDS charity, and trained to be
a peer educator, informing my peers of STDs and HIV/AIDS through workshops
and informal discussions. I continued to pursue my interest in cultural
and development studies while at university and after graduating in
2003 with a degree in social studies, I sought to further develop
my skills and experience through volunteering. My recent activities
have included completing a course in psychotherapy, volunteering for
the young person’s helpline Get Connected and becoming involved in
Thatu. ‘I am excited by being given the opportunity to take part in
the decision making processes of a new charity and I feel my work
at Thatu provides valuable experience and the ability to pursue my
genuine interest in helping people help themselves.’ |

"Our
aim is to put our weight (and our money) behind self-help and home-grown
projects amongst those who struggle to progress with few or no resources."
